From October 25 to October 30, Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris will host Yonex French Open, a major BWF World Tour 750 badminton competition with $675,000 prize pool. All three of India’s second-round qualifiers were eliminated on Thursday after heartbreaking losses, ending their chances of winning a medal in the men’s singles event.

Kidambi Srikanth was eliminated during second-round matches of 2022 French Open after losing to Rasmus Gemke by score of 21-19, 12-21, 19-21 following an intense match that lasted 75 minutes. Meanwhile, Sameer Verma lost to Thai star Vitidsarn in another Round of 16 match by score of 18-21, 11-21 in straight sets. Following these outcomes, Vitidsarn has advanced to quarterfinal, where he will compete with Danish shuttler Rasmus Gemke for spot in final-four.
Elsewhere, reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen defeated Thammasin in straight sets by score of 21-19, 21-17 to qualify for quarterfinal. On Friday, quarterfinal matches will be played with former world champion Loh Kean Yew scheduled to be Axelsen’s next opponent. This Axelsen vs. Loh clash will be rematch from last week’s Denmark Open, where Loh emerged victorious to snap Axelsen’s winning streak.
HS Parnnoy also crashed out from French Open following his loss against Chinese star Lu Guangzu, who won by score of 21-19, 20-22, 21-19 after a hard-fought contest.
