Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty of India defeated top-seeded Takuro Hoki & Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in straight games on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the French Open badminton competition. Seventh seeds in the Super 750 competition, Rankireddy and Shetty prevailed 21-12 21-16 in a 49-minute quarterfinal encounter.

Currently, prestigious BWF World Tour Super 750 event French Open’s 2022 edition is being hosted at Stade Pierre de Coubertin of Paris. As the only seeded pair to make it to the final-four stage, Satwik & Chirag have given Indian supporters hope for the men’s doubles gold medal. 2022 French Open Badminton Doubles Category Results Today, Score, Winners, & Semi-Final Draw

In just 49 minutes, the seventh-seeded Indian men’s doubles duo of Satwik & Chirag defeated top-seeded Japanese pair of Takuro Hoki & Yugo Kobayashi in straight sets, 23-21, 21-18, to qualify for semi-final of 2022 French Open. Following their triumph, the Indian pair will compete for spot in Sunday’s summit match against unseeded South Korean duo of Choi Sol-gyu & Kim Won-ho. Choi & Kim upset Malaysia’s Yew Sin & Ee Yi, the eighth-seeded team, on Saturday by scores of 21-18, 21-18 to qualify for the final-four.

Elsewhere, top-seeded women’s doubles pair of Chen Qingchen & Jia Yifan were eliminated after surprise quarterfinal against South Korean duo of Baek Ha-na & Lee So-hee via score of 16-21, 21-23 in straight sets. Ha-na & So-hee have advanced to the semi-final round following their tenacious victory, where they will compete against Malaysian duo Pearly & Thinaah. The third-seeded Japanese pair Nami & Chiharu were defeated by this Malaysian combination in a thrilling quarterfinal encounter by score of 15-21, 21-14, 21-14.

Quarterfinal round in doubles category of 2022 French Open produced many surprising results as seventh-seeded Indian pair of Satwik & Chirag are the only remaining seeded duo in men’s doubles event.
