Ayan Mukerji’s Family And Education
Ayan Mukerjee was born in a Bengali Hindu family in Kolkata. His family stepped into the Indian film industry in year 1930, when his grandfather, Sashadhar Mukherjee, first ventured by chance into the field.
Mukerji studied at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai. He, later on, attended the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology but dropped out after the first year to become an assistant director to Mr. Ashutosh Gowariker in Swades in 2004. Ayan Mukerji began his professional career as an assistant to Ashutosh Gowariker, his brother-in-law in Swades, and later on to Karan Johar on Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2006. After taking a short break from filmmaking, Mukerji wrote a screenplay for Wake Up Sid and gave it to Johar who decided it should become a movie. The movie was released in year 2009, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles and went on to become a critical and commercial success.
This film earned him the Best Debut Director award at the Filmfare. Mukerji’s newest film, Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna released on 9th September 2022 under Johar’s banner Dharma Productions.
