In the first 2023 All England Open men’s singles semifinal on Saturday, Shi Yuqi defeated Lee Zii Jia 21-19, 21-13 to win the matchup of past champions. It is confirmed that Shi Yuqi will face-off against fellow countryman Li Shifeng on Sunday with the title at stake. To reach the final, the 23-year-old defeated Dane shuttler Anders Antonsen after 95 minutes, winning 21-11, 19-21, & 21-18.
An Se-young defeated three-time champion Tai Tzu Ying in a thrilling women’s semifinal by saving four match points before converting her first. In the end, An prevailed by a score of 17-21, 21-19, & 24-22. A total of 12,000 BWF points would be given to each category winner in the All England Open, with roughly 10,200 points going to the runner-up. After losing their respective semi-final matches, former world champions Tai Tzu-ying and Akane Yamaguchi will both leave the competition with only 8,400 BWF points.

After succumbing to semi-final defeat against Chen Yufei, the reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi’s quest of retaining her All England Open title came to an end and she will now return home with prizes worth $17,500. With the $1,250,000 total prize fund for the competition, each singles category winner in the 2023 BWF Super 1000 All England Open will get $87,500. The singles runners-up will receive $42,500 as opposed to the semi-final losers’ $17,500 award.
