According to a formal death notice published in the Los Angeles Times, Yoshio James Yoda, a Japanese businessman and actor who featured in every episode of the 1960s TV series McHale’s Navy, has passed away at the age of 88.
According to his online obituary, he died in Fullerton, California on January 13, 2023.

Yoshio Yoda was a well-known Japanese-born American actor. He has been in the news because he passed away recently at the age of 88.
On March 31, 1934, he was born in Tokyo, Japan. He was the sole surviving son of a manufacturing family. His American name was James Yoda.
He enrolled at Keio University to study law after graduating from high school. However, he left his studies behind and moved to America, where he then enrolled at the University of Southern California in August 1958.
He has been married to Japanese fashion model Yoko Okazaki since June 1964. His son’s name is Edward Yuji Yoda.
He passed away in Fullerton, California, on January 13, 2023. When he died, he was 88 years old.
His career
After an accidental encounter with film industry executive Edward Ugast, vice-president of Four Star Films and 20th Century Fox’s general manager for Asia, he began his career in movies.
He first appeared in all 138 episodes of McHale’s Navy and played a Japanese prisoner of war turned seaman. Following the discontinuation of McHale’s Navy (1962), he performed a segment on Love, American Style (1969).
He later rose to the position of the vice president while working for Toyota Motors.
