Who Was LQ Jones?
LQ Jones was a famous actor and director who perished recently at his residence and that’s why he is in news lately.
LQ Jones was born as Justus Ellis McQueen Jr. on August 19, 1927, in Beaumont, in south-eastern Texas and died aged 94 years. His mother’s name was Jessie Paralee and his father’s name was Justus Ellis McQueen Sr. who was a railroad worker.
After serving in the US Navy from 1945 until 1946, he attended Lamar Junior College and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. From 1950 to 1951, he obtained a law degree at the University of Texas in Austin.
He attempted ranching in Nicaragua, professional baseball and football, stand-up comedy, and more for a short time, before deciding to pursue acting. LQ Jones was a Republican registered voter and a practising Methodist.
He was married to Neta S. Lewis in 1950 and the couple has three children. However, they got divorced in 1973.
His Career
In the 1955 movie “Battle Cry,” Jones made his acting debut as Justus McQueen, who was his real name at the time. But the name of his character in that movie was “L. Q. Jones,” a moniker he loved and chose to use as his stage name for all of his future acting assignments.
He later went on to star in a number of noteworthy movies and TV shows.
LQ Jones also made appearances in Sam Peckinpah’s flicks “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid” (1973), “The Ballad of Cable Hogue” (1970), “The Wild Bunch” (1969), “Major Dundee” (1965), “Ride the High Country” (1962), and others. Casino (1995), “The Patriot” (1998), “The Mask of Zorro” (1998), and “A Prairie Home Companion” (2006) are some of his later cinematic performances.
His other performances were in Western television shows including “The Virginian,” “Cheyenne,” “Rawhide,” “Gunsmoke,” “Laramie,” and “Wagon Train.” “A Boy and His Dog,” a 1975 science fiction film based on the same-titled Harlan Ellison book, was written and directed by him.
