On Thursday, an Indian Army Major died after falling down a ravine during a counter-infiltration operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri region.
On the 5th of May 2022, Major Raghunath Ahlawat died in the line of duty in Uri, Baramulla, while heading his squad for a Counter Infiltration Operation based on accurate intelligence information.

Officials from the Indian Army said in a statement,
To identify a safe approach for the team he led from the front while carrying out reconnaissance on a route through a steep cliff. Unfortunately, he slipped due to bad weather and slippery conditions and fell 60 meters into a ravine. Critically injured, he succumbed to his injuries en route while being evacuated to the nearest Army Hospital.

Who Was Major Raghunath Ahlawat?
Late Major Raghunath Ahlawat was a native of Dwarka, New Delhi. At the time of his death, he was just 34 years old. He was survived by his wife and his parents.
He was commissioned into the Indian Army in 2012. Late Maj Raghunath Ahlawat’s lifeless remains were brought for final rites to his hometown, where he will be put to rest with full military honours.
His Death Cause
Major Raghunath Ahlawat was heading a Counter Infiltration Operation based on accurate intelligence input when he died. He led from the front while doing reconnaissance on a path through a high cliff to determine a safe approach for the crew.
Unfortunately, he slipped and fell 60 metres down a ravine owing to severe weather and rough terrain. He died of his injuries while being taken to the closest Army Hospital, critically injured.
