Things turned sour on the night when Latifi pulled onto the track exit at turn four to let Stroll through for his only hot lap of the session with the Aston Martin team needing time to prepare the car. Stroll went onto slow down as Latifi accelerated to go back past him on the inside but Stroll moved to send the Williams crashing into the wall.
The visuals told the story of the massive impact of the crash with the rear end of the Williams obliterated whilst Stroll was forced to halt with damage to his front right wheel. The qualifying session was curtailed for 15 minutes as the two cars were cleared from the track with a blame game erupting between the two drivers.
Latifi saud on his team radio: ‘I don’t understand what he was doing. He wasn’t looking in his mirrors. The f***ing car’s destroyed!’
Stroll was meanwhile heard bellowing: ‘Latifi man, what the f*** was he doing, he’s just f***ing hit me man!’
Stewards are set to investigate the incident to determine who was really at fault and if any further punishment needs to be imposed.
