A look at Gian Piero Gasperini’s career
Since 2016, the former player, Gian Piero Gasperini has served as Atalanta’s manager in Serie A. He has played for teams like 1976-1978 Juventus, 1977-1978 Reggiana (loan), 1978-1983 Palermo, 1983-1984 Cavese, 1984-1985 Pistoiese, 1985-1990 Pescara, 1990-1991, Salernitana and 1991-1993 and Vis Pesaro.
In 1994, Gasperini returned to the Juventus youth programme but this time, as a coach. He was the coach of the Allievi (U-17) for the following two years after serving as the coach of the Giovanissimi (U-14) for the first two. 1998 saw him promoted as manager of the Primavera (U-20) squad.
In 2003, Gasperini departed from Juventus to become the head coach of the Serie C1 team Crotone. There, he expertly guided his squad to promotion to Serie B via the play-offs.
He then went on to manage 2006-2010 Genoa, 2011 Inter Milan, 2012-2013 Palermo, 2013-2016 Genoa and then in 2016, the Italian signed with Atalanta.
Gasperini has built up a reputation for nurturing young talent, playing exciting attacking football and getting results against sides with better resources.
