About Rakim Lubin

According to his obituary posted by Prestige Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory, Rakim Lubin was born on August 18, 1995.

Known as โ€œRockโ€ for his tenacity on the court, Lubin, standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 260 pounds, transferred to Cal State Northridge after his freshman year, enduring a mandatory sit-out during the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer regulations.

His time at Cal State Northridge saw him flourish, with increased playing time during the 2016-17 season, where he averaged 18.2 minutes over 23 games, including 12 starts, contributing 8.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and shooting an impressive 53.2% from the field.

Following a standout senior year, where he boasted averages of 20.3 points and 12.1 rebounds, propelling Buford High School to clinch the Georgia 2A state championship, Rakim Lubin embarked on his collegiate journey with the UConn Huskies.

As a three-star prospect in the 2014 recruiting class, he entered the fold under the guidance of then-coach Kevin Ollie.

Throughout the 2014-15 season, Lubin made appearances in 24 games, all from the bench, maintaining averages of 1.0 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.1 assists, and 0.2 blocks in a modest 6.5 minutes per game, showcasing a commendable 53.3% shooting accuracy from the field.

However, his journey hit a snag when disciplinary issues arose, leading to his suspension along with three other players โ€“ Omar Calhoun, Dan Guest, and Marcel Lewis โ€“ for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Championship Game due to a breach of team regulations.

After complying with transfer regulations, Lubin made his debut for the Matadors in the following season, featuring in 23 games with 12 starts.

He showcased his skills with averages of 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 18.2 minutes per game, maintaining a solid shooting percentage of 53.2% from the field.

Following his stint with Cal State Northridge, Lubin briefly joined the LSU Shreveport Pilots, although he did not see any game action during his time with the program.
