Here is what happens when a MLB match is delayed by rain, know the MLB Rain delay rules in 2024
While the MLB season has already started and one of the matches recently faced consequences because of rain, question arises if there are any rules when it rains during match.
The Blue Jays lost their first game of the week due to an expensive error, and they also lost part of their second game due to a rookie error that should have been prevented.
Rainfall halted and with several of the best Royals relievers out of the game, the Blue Jays believed they had a chance to win, down by just one run.
MLB rain delay rules in 2024 and what happens when a game is delayed by rain
If MLB calls a rain delay with 2 outs in the 4th, the game *must* be rescheduled..
It’s idiotic to say both teams had a fair chance. IT WAS POURING RAIN, and they stupidly didn’t call it
Ending a game 2-1 after 5 innings is crazy, idc if that means I gotta “grow up” 😂 https://t.co/EBzmZPod0c

Rather, they were told that the surface was excessively loose and hence unplayable following a three hours and forty-eight minute rain delay. Because weather is unpredictable, everyone should know what to expect during a game that is affected by the weather. The rules and regulations.
Before we start, it is to be noted that only during the MLB regular season are these rain delay rules implemented. Every postseason game is subject to other rules and regulations set by the league. Let us have a look at these rules.
What is MLB Rain Delay rules?
Just like in 2023, the MLB will continue to function under the same rain delay rules this year as well. So what are those?
The regulations state that if bad weather halts a game, there has to be a minimum of 30 minutes of waiting before the game may resume. If the weather does not get better after the 30-minute delay, the umpires might still decide to call the game.
Furthermore, it is a “no game” and will be rescheduled for another day if the game is called before it is officially declared to be played (five innings for a non-started game).
If it is an official game, the team leading would prevail if it continued past five innings. Since half of the innings had already been played, they didn’t want to waste further time replaying the game; the reason why the rule was implemented.
When matches are rescheduled, both teams have the option to select the new time and venue for the match. However, the league selects a certain date if neither team is able to come to an agreement.
