Law enforcement officials described the perpetrator as an “intimacy-seeking stalker” who took extreme measures, including installing a tracking device on the victim’s car and hiring individuals to carry out the kidnapping.

The saga began two years ago when Trishna stumbled upon a profile on Bharat Matrimony using Mr. Sistla’s photos. Engaging in conversation with the impersonator, later identified as Chaitanya Reddy, she eventually realized the account was not authentic.

After reaching out to Mr. Sistla, an anchor at a music channel, via WhatsApp, the woman discovered that someone had created a fake account using his photo.

What Exactly Happened?

Despite being informed that a police complaint had been lodged, she persisted in messaging him. Consequently, Mr. Sistla took the step of blocking her number, according to the police.

Although this could have marked the conclusion of the incident, the woman was unwavering in her desire to maintain contact with the video jockey.

Convinced that she could resolve the situation, she devised a plan to kidnap him and enlisted a colleague from her office for the task, offering ₹50,000 as compensation. Additionally, they attached an AirTag to his car to monitor his movements, a device later recovered by law enforcement.

On February 11, the individual enlisted the help of four accomplices to abduct Ms. Sistla, citing a false claim that an imposter had taken money from Ms. Trishna.

Following the abduction, they assaulted the victim and transported him to the woman’s workplace. Only upon his agreement to answer her calls was he released, as reported by the police.

Subsequently, he promptly approached the Uppal police station and lodged a complaint, resulting in the apprehension of the woman and her five associates involved in the kidnapping.
