The incident occurred on February 14 when Pattabhiraman was cycling home from his workplace, the Indian restaurant Vel in Reading, south-east England. He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital but was pronounced dead after a fatal collision with a vehicle at the Cadugan Place intersection.

24-year-old Shazeb Khalid was taken into custody on suspicion of murder. He has now been charged and is scheduled to appear at Reading Magistrates Court. Additionally, seven men, ranging in age from 20 to 48, all from the same city, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have been released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, the Senior Investigating Officer from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, expressed condolences to Vignesh Pattabhiraman’s family and emphasized the ongoing investigation. Throughout the inquiry, the police have remained conspicuously present in the neighborhood to respond to public concerns.
To help Pattabhiraman’s heartbroken wife Ramya and to pay for her burial and repatriation, friends and relatives have started a Just Giving charitable project. The campaign, which has garnered almost GBP 39,000 in a matter of days, describes him as a committed restaurant manager who is well-known for his kind demeanor and work ethic.
