In the video, which was posted on December 17 and received over a million likes, the University of Virginia runner stated that she had raced a friend of her boyfriend who “refused to believe that a woman could beat him in a race.”
The initial part of the race is seen in the video to have been run by Sabbakhan and her rival at nearly the same speed. But after the first 200 metres, everything dramatically changed as Alahna Sabbakhan increased her speed and separated the two, giving the University of Virginia runner a commanding lead that would eventually translate into a triumph.

Who is Alahna Sabbakhan?
Alahna Sabbakhan is a six-time USATF All-American Junior Olympics recipient as well as a 2015 AAU All-American Junior Olympics winner.
On May 12, 2023, at the Paul Derr TF Facility in Raleigh, the USA, she raced the women’s 400-meter event, setting a personal best time of 54.67 seconds. On February 6, 2022, in the Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, she set a personal best in the women’s 800 metres with a time of 2:05.74.
She placed first in the 400-meter and 4×400-meter relays at the 2015 USATF Indoor Championships, as well as first in the 4×800-meter relay at the 2016 USATF Outdoor Championships, earning her three national titles.
