Las Vegas Raiders announce Antonio Pierce as interim coach
Just two hours after making the announcement about Josh McDaniels’ firing, the Raiders named Antonio Pierce as the team’s interim coach for the rest of the ongoing season. Pierce, who initially began the season as the team’s linebackers coach, will now lead the Las Vegas for their final nine games of the season. The move will serve as a chance for Pierce to further make his way up the coaching ranks.

Antonio Durran Pierce is an American football coach who was born on 26 October 1978, in Ontario, California, USA. He started out as an NFL player before retiring and taking up a new profession as an NFL coach. He is the newly appointed interim head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League. During his time a player, he played for nine seasons in the NFL. Besides coaching, Pierce has also spent time in the NFL as an analyst after retiring as a player.

Antonio Pierce playing career
Before his time as a coach, Pierce started out as a linebacker in college football, completing his senior season in 2000 at the University of Arizona. However, he went undrafted in 2001 and Washington signed him as an undrafted free agent. Pierce started out in the NFL in eight of 16 games as a rookie and eventually became a full-time starter during his fourth NFL season. By 2004, he recorded 114 tackles, two interceptions and two fumbles.
Prior to the start of the 2005 season, Pierce signed with the Giants and quickly became a regular starter. Pierce registered her best individual season in 2006 when he recorded a career-high 139 tackles. He also earned the lone Pro Bowl selection of his career, and by 2007, Pierce started in all 16 games for the Giants. The Giants qualified for the playoffs that year and Pierce played a key role in his team’s run to the Super Bowl title. He recorded a total of 25 tackles over four postseason games. By the end of the 2009 season, Pierce retired from the NFL, and became an NFL analyst for ESPN.

Antonio Pierce coaching history
Around the year 2014, Pierce began his coaching career as the head coach at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. By the end of the 2017 high school football season, Pierce resigned moved on to coach at Arizona State. He served as the Sun Devils’ linebackers’ coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons before receiving a promotion in 2020. Following the promotion, Pierce took up the new added roles of associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator. Ahead of the start of the 2022 season, the Raiders hired Pierce as their linebackers coach. He now serves as their interim head coach.
