For the first season of Major League Cricket, the Mumbai Indians have added MI New York as their fifth cricket franchise. After Mumbai Indians (IPL), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20), and Mumbai Indians (WPL), MI New York will be the fifth franchise.
The inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket will kick off on July 13 later this year. The tournament will be played between six teams, four out of which are either partly or fully owned by existing Indian Premier League franchises.

Kolkata Knight Riders were one of the first investors in the tournament and own the Los Angeles-based team, while Mumbai Indians will be responsible for the New York-based franchise. Delhi Capitals meanwhile have joined hands with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and will co-own the Seattle-based franchise which will be called Seattle Orcas.
The fourth IPL team to have a stake in the MLC is Chennai Super Kings, who will co-own the Texas-based franchise and the remaining two teams – one based out of Washington DC and another out of San Franciso – are owned by local American investors in tie-ups with New South Wales Cricket and Victoria Cricket respectively.

2023 Major Cricket League player draft, teams, & selected players
On Monday, the Major League Cricket (MLC) player draught took place and former Australian skipper Aaron Finch was selected by the San Francisco Unicorns as their first foreign acquisition. Finch was one of six names that were revealed during the draught alongside Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, South African Quinton de Kock from South Africa, & Sri Lankan Wanindu Hasaranga. Unicorns chose Corey Anderson and Liam Plunkett with their first two picks, and both of them currently reside in the USA after marrying Americans.
Orcas have a collaboration agreement with the Delhi Capitals team, while San Francisco Unicorns have a partnership agreement with Cricket Victoria. Cricket New South Wales and Washington (DC) Freedom are partners in a strategic alliance. At the draught, MI New York selected USA internationals Steven Taylor and Monank Patel, while the Los Angeles Knight Riders selected former Canada captain Nitish Kumar.

In the Major Cricket League 2023 draught, the LA Knight Riders selected former Under-19 captain Unmukt Chand. Harmeet Singh became the second Indian cricketer to be selected for the MLC after Chand.
