More good news filtered in India’s way on Sunday as Nishad Kumar reined in the second silver medal for the country at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 with his win in high jump
National Sports Day couldn’t have been celebrated in any more ideal fashion in the country. After Bhavina Devi created history by bringing in India’s first ever women’s table tennis Paralympic medal, para-athlete Nishad Kumar added to the tally.
High jumper Nishad Kumar added India’s second silver medal to the country’s kitty as he took second place in the high jump event. It was an outstanding effort from Nishad, one which saw him pull off a sensational 2.06m jump as he went onto shatter the Asian record in the process.
Nishad Kumar Brings Home India’s Second Silver Medal At The Tokyo Paralympics 2020
The second spot was shared by Nishad alongside Dallas Wise whilst USA’s Roderick Townsend took home the gold with a staggering jump of 2.15 in the T-47 high jump event. India saw Rampal Chahar finish in 5th place meanwhile with a jump of 1.49m.
Nishad was subsequently congratulated by PM Narendra Modi who took to Twitter to laud the para-athlete’s efforts on the day. The Prime Minister had earlier in the day spoken to Bhavina Patel as well, a player who he has been closely following and supporting over the course of more than a decade during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Bhavina had become only the second ever female medal winner at the Paralympics for India as she won silver after being defeated by China’s Zhou Ying today morning 3-0 defeat in the class 4 table tennis category.
