Prior to him making a foray into the US Open, Alexander Zverev found himself embroiled in controversy as his ex-girlfriend went onto make allegations of domestic violence against him.

Her story was backed by Slate, a platform which had gone onto publish a report where it claimed Zverev was abusive towards his ex-girlfriend. The world number 4 tennis player has now gone onto open legal proceedings against the outlet with him releasing a statement to affirm the same.

Not only has Zverev categorically denied the charges of abuse levelled on him, he’s also gone onto appeal to the ATP to induct in place a domestic violence policy. Zverev has also gone onto talk about how he had contacted his lawyers to file a lawsuit against Slate for going ahead with their piece despite having no proper information of the issue.

“I have engaged my German and American lawyers in the matter,” Zverev wrote in a statement he posted on Twitter.

“The lawyers have therefore initiated further proceedings against the source and the author.

“I categorically and unequivocally deny having abused Olya,” he added.

Meanwhile, Slate’s Director of Media Relations, Katie Rayford went onto respond to Zverev by claiming that the story was factual and backed by claims from people close to the topic at hand. Despite the legal action against her media house, she refused to delete the story, claiming how she would continue to stand by it.
