During the outstanding 2-0 victory over Argentina, Yasser Al Shahrani of Saudi Arabia had a terribly broken jaw. After colliding with goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, he suffered a terrible injury that left him in serious condition.

During stoppage time, the accident in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar led Al Shahrani to leave the field on a stretcher. Owais’ knee struck Yasser in the face, causing him to fall to the ground in agony. During this time, the Saudi goalkeeper was afraid and worried for his colleague Al Shahrani because of the intensity of the impact.

Al Shahrani was initially taken to Hamad Medical City in Qatar where he underwent a full medical checkup and spent the night. Following examinations and x-rays, it was discovered that Yasser Al Shahrani had shattered the jaw and left facial bones and required immediate surgical treatment because of an internal bleed.

After injuring himself during the national team’s match against Argentina, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman directed that Yasser be flown to Germany on a private plane for treatment. Following the horrific injury, Al Shahrani sent a message to his fans from the hospital where he was getting treatment. His return date will be determined by additional medical examinations.

On Tuesday at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar at Lusail Stadium, Saudi Arabia stunned everyone after securing a comfortable 2-1 victory over Argentina. Argentina started the game on a high note. It took only 10-min before Lionel Messi provides the opening goal by scoring from the penalty box.  However, Saudi did not lose hope and scored two quick-fire goals from Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari. Argentina has been picked up by many as the favourite to lift the 2022 Qatar World Cup trophy. It will be interesting to see how Argentina will come back from here.
