Team India has dropped Mayank Agarwal from the WTC Final 2021 squad for Shubhman Gill who awe-struck the cricket fraternity with his batting technique during the Australian Tour.
Shubman Gill Career
Shubhman Gill started his career on a sweet note making his debut against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Gill has smashed three half-centuries in a short time but nothing in ODIs as he couldn’t get sufficient opportunities. The 21-year-old has developed the composure to play the longer format, where he scored 91 against the kangaroos at the Gabba Test, providing the crucial foundation for team India’s major victory.
Gill has played 5 test matches with 352 runs and averages 39.11 with 3 half-centuries in the longer format alone. The stats can’t be compared between Mayank and Gill, but a significant sign is that India have various gems lined up in the future.
WTC Final India Squad: Shubman Gill vs Mayank Agarwal
In the year 2018-19 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Mayank grabbed the spotlight when he smashed 76 & 42 runs in his debut game at MCG to register a historic victory. Following on with another half-century (77) in Sydney confirmed his berth in the team as an opener.
The caliber of Mayank rose in 2019 when the south-paw blasted a double-century against Proteas. The 31-year-old slammed a few major centuries in guiding team India for aggressive totals. Mayank has played 14 Test matches with 1052 runs, averages 45.74, accounting for 4 half-centuries, 3 hundred and two double-hundreds.
A perfect aggressor with daddy hundreds is normal in the office. India seems to have found the replacement of Legend Virender Sehwag in young Mayank. Post the arrival of Shubhman Gill and a string of few low scores terminated his place from the playing Xls.
BCCI must utilize Mayank and Shubhman Gill efficiently and provide equal opportunity to cement their spot in the future.
