The competition, which will make its debut this year, is a brand-new addition to the WTA tour. The Abierto Zapopan, another event that took place in Mexico, was replaced by it on the calendar.
The event will take place on outdoor hardcourts and is a part of the WTA 250 schedule. 32 singles players and 16 doubles pairs are included in the draw.

Schedule
It will take place from February 20–26, 2023, for the first edition of the Merida Open.
On February 18 and 19, 2023, the qualifying rounds will take place. On Monday, February 20, the main draw action will start. Matches in the first round will continue through Tuesday, while those in the second round culminate on Thursday.
The final is slated for Sunday, February 26, after the semifinals are held on Friday, February 22, and Saturday, February 23. At 4:30 pm local time, the doubles final will begin, and at 7:00 pm, the singles final.
Venue
Mexico’s Merida will host the Merida Open at the Yucatan Country Club.
Players, draw
Magda Linette, Zhu Lin, and Alison Riske-Amritraj are among the competitors in the top half of the draw. With Camila Osorio as her opponent, Linette was dealt a challenging opening match.
Lin will face Caty McNally, and Riske-Amritraj will go up against Wang Xiyu. Alycia Parks, the Lyon Open champion, will face Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the opening round of her campaign.
In the first round, Sloane Stephens will play a qualifier as she is in the bottom half of the draw. The semifinalist from Wimbledon 2022, Tatjana Maria, might be her opponent in the second round. The other significant names in this part of the draw are Camila Giorgi and Katerina Siniakova.

$259,303 worth of prizes will be awarded at the Merida Open. The winner will receive 280 ranking points in addition to a monetary award of $34,228.
