Binapani Mohanty, a well-known writer, died on Sunday at the age of 86 in her Cuttack home. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were among those who expressed sorrow at the demise of the acclaimed writer.
PM Modi said in a tweet,

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed his sorrow, saying that the loss was irreparable to the world of Odia literature. Binapani Mohanty’s funeral would be held with full state honours, he also said.
Who Is Binapani Mohanty?
Binapani Mohanty was an Odia writer and scholar who was recognized for her several famous works and more than 100 books. Before retirement, she was a professor of Economics and the Chairperson of the Odisha Lekhika Sansad.
Chaturbhuja and Kumudini Mohanty welcomed her into the world in 1936. She graduated from high school in 1953 and pursued a degree in economics. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1957 and a Master’s degree in 1959. She went on to work as a lecturer and was assigned to several different institutions.
She lives with her nephew Dr Biswadas Mohanty as he was her only family.
Her Literary Career
With the release of ‘Gotie Ratira Kahani’ in 1960, Mohanty began his literary career as a storyteller. ‘Kasturi Mriga O Sabuja Aranya’, ‘Patadei’, ‘Khela Ghara’, ‘Bastraharana’, ‘Naiku Rasta’, and ‘Andhakarara’ are some of her greatest works.
In 1986, her short tale ‘Pata Dei’ was also published as Lata in Femina, and its Hindi translation was televised on Doordarshan as part of the ‘Kashmakash’ series in 1987.
Binapani Mohanty’s work has been translated into a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi.
She also wrote several novels i. e. Sitara Sonita, Manaswini and Kunti, Kuntala, Shakuntala, and Kranti, as well as a one-act play. Among other things, Mohanty has translated Russian folk tales from English to Odia.
Death Cause Of Binapani Mohanty
Mohanty died on Sunday night at her Cuttack home owing to age-related issues, according to her relatives.
On Monday, the mortal remains of acclaimed writer and Padma Shri awardee Binapani Mohanty were cremated with full state honours.
In the presence of hundreds of people and authorities, including Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Ananya Das, her nephew Dr Biswadas Mohanty lighted the cremation flame.
People lined the streets to pay their final respects to the departed soul as the body of the famed writer was carried in a procession to the Sati Chaura cremation.
