Yayoy Alcoseba was a well-known basketball player in the Philippines. He enjoys playing basketball in addition to teaching. Ramon, his son, was the first to share the news of his death on social media. It was a pity he wasn’t here with us.
From 2017 to 2019, he served as the coach at the University of Cebu. Many of his students are going to learn from him. And his lectures were harsh, torturous, and difficult to bear. Because he only believes in one philosophy: Do or Die.
Alcoseba, who played for Southwestern University and got the opportunity to play against Cameroonian forward Ben Mbala. The Cobras won back-to-back Cesafi titles behind MVP Mac Tallo, giving Alcoseba a total of four college titles.
He was also a Councilor of Cebu City. Yayoy was elected to the municipal council for the first time in 2004. He also served on the Provincial Board from 2013 to 2016, representing Cebu’s first district.
In 2019, he was re-elected to Cebu City’s legislative assembly. He was running for re-election in 2022 as part of the Osmea-led Bando Osmea-Pundok Kausgawan coalition (BOPK).

Alcoseba was a major figure in Cebu’s sports scene, most notably as a multi-titled basketball coach, in addition to being a member of the city council. However, the reason behind his death is still unknown as nobody released it yet but it is said to be due to an illness.
With the Cesafi contests beginning, Alcoseba was scheduled to return to his old institution, the University of San Jose-Recoletos. Alcoseba was a councillor in Cebu City’s second district who was up for re-election in 2022.
