The 2022 Commonwealth Games excluded Shooting and Archery from it’s sports events, which significantly impacted India’s medal tally with CWG 2026 to not have wrestling now
Multiple reports have claimed that these sports along with Wrestling won’t be a part of 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Shooting, wrestling, and archery will not be included in the CWG 2026 schedule of activities. According to recent sources, the Commonwealth Games Federation has stated that it is still open to adding new events, and shooting may very well be one of them. When shooting was dropped from the CGF for 2022, four new sports were added: women’s T20 cricket, wheelchair basketball 3×3, basketball 3×3, and para table tennis.
Wrestling, Shooting, Archery All Removed From Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 Sports Events List
India end their CWG campaign at 4th spot: 61 medals (22 Gold, 16 Silver & 23 Bronze)
👉 In last edition, India at 3rd spot: 66 medals (26G, 20S & 20B)
👉 Big difference: Absence of Shooting in this edition where we won 16 medals (including 7 Gold) in 2018 #CWG22 #CWGwithIAS pic.twitter.com/RN0XxWqXsc— India_AllSports (@India_AllSports) August 8, 2022
If Wrestling, Shooting, Archery are excluded & Kabbadi isn't added in the next CWG, India needs to skip it. Then broadcasters & sponsors too will pull out as Indian viewership is nearly 50% of the Commonwealth. Then CWG will come crawling, that's how BCCI got ICC to be it's pawn.

In CWG 2022: There were 51 different types of competition ONLY in Swimming.
If there were NO Swimming competition, like shooting, England/Aus/Canada would have not won so many Gold Medals.

2026 Commonwealth Games Host Details, Date, Time, And Venue
The 2026 Commonwealth Games, also referred to as Victoria 2026, is a multi-sport competition for Commonwealth athletes that will be held at four regional venues in the Australian state of Victoria: Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, and Gippsland. The opening ceremonies will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the state capital of Melbourne. In contrast to past Commonwealth Games, this year’s event will be spread over several regional cities outside of the nation’s capital and hosted by the state. The Games will last twelve days, from March 17 to March 29, 2026.
2026 Commonwealth Games List of Sports and Exclusion of Shooting, Wrestling, & Archery
In order to encourage municipalities to submit bids for the Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) declared that only swimming and athletics will be included in future Games. Despite this, sixteen sports—16 in total—were chosen for the 2026 Victorian Games, and discussions are ongoing with regard to seven further sports. Athletics, badminton, boxing, beach volleyball, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, rugby sevens, squash, table tennis, triathlon, and weightlifting are also on the schedule in addition to swimming and diving.
Wrestling, archery, and shooting have been excluded from the initial sports list for the 2026 commonwealth games putting prospects of Indian medal tally at risk as these three sports are the ones that traditionally have been dominated by India. Shooting is the most successful sport for India in the commonwealth games giving 135 medals, while wrestling has been the third most successful sport with 102 medals won.
The host selects the initial lineup of contests from a list of 22 core sports. Australia’s Victoria State will serve as the 2026 Commonwealth Games’ host nation. After consulting with the sports ministry, the Indian Olympic Association said it will contest this decision and called this exclusion action a severe injustice.
Last year, the CGF general assembly adopted a new policy, under which just swimming and athletics would be required, with the host nation free to choose the other sports. By the end of this year, Australia can add more games if it so chooses.
