The most recent retention announcements from the five franchises have set the ground for an interesting auction, and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season is looking to be an exciting chapter in women’s cricket.

The retention choices provide important information about how clubs are getting ready for the new season, especially with teams like the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants locking in their rosters

While the exact date location of the WPL mini auction has not been announced, it is likely to be held in a major city in India, similar to previous auctions (which was in Mumbai). The auction is likely to take place in November last week or December 2024 first week with WPL 2025 anticipated to start come February 2025 although the schedule hasn’t been revealed yet.

For the upcoming WPL season, the BCCI has increased each team’s budget for player purchases and the auction purse has risen from 13.5 crore in 2024 to 15 crore for 2025.

Mumbai Indians

Amanjot Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Nat-Sciver Brunt, Pooja Vastrakar, S. Sajana, Shabnim Ismail, Saika Ishaque, Yastika Bhatia, Amelia Kerr, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, Jintimani Kalita, Keerthana are the retained players.

Priyanka Bala, Humaira Kazi, Fatima Jaffer, and Issy Wong were released by Mumbai Indians for Women’s Premier League 2025.

Remaining purse is ₹2.65 crore with four remaining slots.

Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals kept Meg Lanning, Marizanne Kapp, Jess Jonassen, Alice Capsey, Annabel Sutherland (abroad), Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Shikha Pandey, Taniyaa Bhatia (WK), Minnu Mani, Sneha Deepthi, and Titas Sadhu.

Ashwani Kumari, Aparna Mondal, Laura Harris, and Poonam Yadav were released. Remaining purse is ₹2.50 crore with four slots left.

Bengaluru Royals Challengers

Richa Ghosh, Sabbineni Meghana, Shreyanka Patil, Georgia Wareham (abroad), Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh, Sophie Devine (abroad), Sophie Molineux (abroad), Ekta Bisht, Kanika Ahuja, Kate Cross (abroad), Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (abroad), Smriti Mandhana, and Ellyse Perry (abroad) were retained.

Simran Bahadur, Heather Knight, Shubha Satheesh, Shraddha Pokarkar, Disha Kasat, Indrani Roy, and Nadine de Klerk got released. Remaining purse is ₹3.25 crore with four slots.

Gujarat Giants

Meghna Singh, Shabnam Shakil, Tanuja Kanwer, Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harleen Deol, Laura Wolvaardt, Kashvee Gautam, Priya Mishra, Lauren Cheatle, and Mannat Kashyap were retained.

Lea Tahuhu, Kathryn Bryce, Trisha Poojitha, Tarannum Pathan, Veda Krishnamurthy, and Sneh Rana were released.

Remaining purse is ₹4.4 crore with four slots.

UP Warriorz

UP Warriorz kept Tahila McGrath, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Saima Thakor, Anjali Sarvani, Gouher Sultana, Poonam Khemnar, Uma Chetry, Vrinda Dinesh, Kiran Navgire, Shweta Sehrawat, Deepti Sharma, Chamari Athapaththu, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone, and Tahila Healy.

They released Danny Wyatt-Hodge (traded to RCB), Lauren Bell, S Yashasri, Laxmi Yadav, and Parshavi Chopra
