Tuesday saw the conclusion of group stage matches in women’s tournament and schedule announcement for sub-sequent stages. Defending champions China and second-seeded Japan were strong during group stage, which allowed them to finish with 8 points in 4 games thanks to perfect win record. As a result of these two teams winning all of their games by a score of 3-0, the Chinese and Japanese women paddlers have now won 12 games and have lost none.
India advanced to the Round of 16 stage as runner-up of Group 5 behind Germany and will face Chinese Taipei for a spot in quarterfinal. As per player strength, India will be the underdogs in this tie but both teams had a similar record in this year’s tournament and hence, a win for in-form India can’t be ruled out.

India won their subsequent matches to finish second in their group and advance to Round of 16 despite losing their opening match against Germany. On Wednesday, India will play their Round of 16 tie against seventh-seeded Chinese Taipei, who finished as group winners with 5 points from 3 matches.
