Despite Kazakhstan paddlers’ best efforts, the Indian men’s team overcame them 3-2. In the opening match, Sathiyan defeated Zholudev Denis by scores of 11-1, 11-9, and 11-5 to earn a 3-0 victory and give India a 1-0 lead. Later, Kazakhstan made a comeback into the tie in the second match as Kirill Gerassimenko defeated Harmeet Desai 3-0 with scores of 11-6, 11-8, and 11-9.

Then, Manav Thakkar pushed India on the verge of triumph by playing magnificently for his country and defeating Kurmangaliyev Alan 3-0 (12-10, 11-1, 11-8). But in the fourth game, Sathiyan, who had been playing well, lost to Kirill Gerassimenko 2-3 with a score of 11-6, 5-11, 14-12, 9-11, and 6-11, allowing Kazakhstan to force the match into decider. Harmeet Desai won the pivotal third game 12-10, 11-9, 11-6 to give India the 3-2 victory.

In an effort to save their season, second-seeded Germany will play against last-place Uzbekistan on Tuesday while the Indian men’s team will face second-placed France.

Chengdu city of China is playing host to the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships, which will run from September 30 till October 9. Total of 16 teams will ultimately make it to the Round of 16 in the men’s competition, which has 32 teams.
