On Sunday, India continued their perfect start in men’s competition at the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2022 by defeating the second-seeded Germany 3-1. They will be hoping for a similar result in their matchup tomorrow against Kazakhstan’s heavyweights so they can advance to the round of 16 with one game remaining.

Unseeded Indian men’s team defeated second-seeded Germany 3-1 thanks to Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who managed two victories over players of a greater caliber. In the first match, Sathiyan secured a 3-2 victory over Benedikt Duda by score of 11-13, 4-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9 and gifted 1-0 lead to India. However, the second match saw Germany make a comeback into the tie when world No. 9 Qiu Dang defeated Harmeet Desai 3-1 by score of 11-7, 11-9, 11-13, 11-3.
Then, Manav Thakkar performed admirably for India and defeated Ricardo Walther 3-1 with score of 13-11, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10 to put India on the brink of victory. Finally in the fourth game, in-form Sathiyan defeated Qiu Dang 3-2 with score of 10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 to complete India’s victory against Germany. On Monday, second-placed Indian men’s team will take on Kazakhstan while second-seeded Germany will clash against group leaders France to salvage their campaign.
