In their opening encounter of the World Team Table Tennis Championships here on Saturday, the Indian men’s team shut out Uzbekistan 3-0. Manav Thakkar, G Sathiyan, and Harmeet Desai all won their respective matches with ease and against Uzbekistan, all matches ended with score-line of 3-0 in favor of Indian paddlers. Meanwhile in other matches of Group 2, France defeated Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan 3-0 to remain perfect and lead the standings. On Sunday at roughly 11.30 AM, second-seeded German men’s team will take on the Indian men.
On October 5, the elimination round will begin, and China, the defending champion, is seeded first in both the men’s and women’s team competitions. The men’s Indian squad will be aiming to get to the knockout round but with second-seeded Germany, France, and Uzbekistan, it won’t be simple.
