2024 World Snooker Championship latest results, day 2 schedule, date, time, venue, draw, & players list
Luca Brecel squandered a 9-6 advantage and exited the opening round of the Cazoo World Championship, losing 10-9 to David Gilbert and falling prey to the notorious Crucible Curse. Although Brecel performed below par, full credit belongs to Gilbert, who seized the opportunity, especially in the final stages by winning the last four frames with a string of impressive breaks.
Gilbert, a semi-finalist in 2019 and ranked 31st in the world from Tamworth, displayed excellent form in the qualifying rounds, carrying it through to achieve one of his finest results. The 42-year-old will face Robert Milkins or Pang Junxu in the last-16 clash scheduled for Thursday or Friday.
In another match, Tom Ford, entering the tournament as a top 16 seed for the first time, established a 6-3 lead overnight against Ricky Walden. After splitting the first two frames, Ford dominated, securing five out of the next six frames with notable breaks of 83, 50, 79, and 53. Walden salvaged the final frame of the session with an impressive total clearance of 142 but now requires seven of the last ten frames when play resumes on Sunday evening.
