The 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship is a professional snooker tournament that will take place from April 16 to May 2, 2022, at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. The tournament will be the venue’s 46th World Snooker Championship. The tournament, which is the 16th and final ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season, is hosted by the World Snooker Tour.

The tournament is taking place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England with the final is slated for Monday, May 2nd. The same venue is hosting the World Snooker Championship for the 46th consecutive year. Tickets for the fixtures can be bought here.

The tournament matches will take place in the following manner:

  • April 16- April 21: First Round Matches
  • 21st April- 25th April: Second Round Matches
  • April 26- April 27: Quarter-final Matches
  • April 28- April 30: Semi-final Matches
  • May 1- May 2: Final

Tournament Format And Rules

The best of 19 frames will be present in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final will be a best-of-35-frames competition played over two days.

Judd Trump gained a 3–0 lead over Hossein Vafaei in his match, boosted by a 110 break, before Vafaei battled back to square the score at 3–3. Trump subsequently won three more frames in a row to take a 6–3 lead in the session.

Kyren Wilson, the 2020 runner-up, took the first three frames with breaks of 64, 110, 51, and 55, defeating Ding, the 2016 runner-up. However, Wilson seized a 9–8 lead after a solid evening session and won the match 10–8 with a 62 break in the 18th. With this win, Wilson advanced to the second round of 2022 World Snooker Championship, where he will face Stuart Bingham.

Luca Brecel, the winner of the Scottish Open this season, took on Saengkham, who elected to stay in the event after his wife gave birth to their first child the day before his first-round match. Saengkham won six of the first seven frames, including breaks of 110 and 127, but Brecel won the final two frames of the session to cut his deficit to 6–3.

The champion of the 2022 Snooker World Championship will take home £500,000 in prize money, while the losing finalist will take home £200,000. The tournament’s total prize pool will be 2,395,000 pounds.
