The 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship is a professional snooker competition that will be held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, from April 16 to May 2, 2022. It will be the 46th World Snooker Championship to be contested at the venue. The World Snooker Tour hosts the tournament, which is the 16th and final ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season.

2022 World Snooker Championship Tournament Schedule, Dates, Tickets And Venue

The tournament is taking place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England with the final is slated for Monday, May 2nd. The same venue is hosting the World Snooker Championship for the 46th consecutive year. Tickets for the fixtures can be bought here.

The tournament matches will take place in the following manner:

  • April 16- April 21: First Round Matches
  • 21st April- 25th April: Second Round Matches
  • April 26- April 27: Quarter-final Matches
  • April 28- April 30: Semi-final Matches
  • May 1- May 2: Final

Tournament Format And Rules

The best of 19 frames will be present in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final will be a best-of-35-frames competition played over two days.

The first round of 2022 World Snooker Championship will be contested as a best of 19 frames between April 16 and 21. After trailing Hugill 1–3 at the midsession break, 2010 champion Neil Robertson won five consecutive frames, making breaks of 72, 97, 109, and 132, to lead 6–3 after the first session. Robertson again won the opening three frames of the second session, giving him an eight-frame winning streak in the match, but Hugill came back to take the following two frames with breaks of 51 and 82. With a 109 break, Robertson sealed a 10–5 victory. It was his fourth century of the match.

Stuart Bingham, the 2015 champion who had advanced to the semi-finals the year before, met Lyu. Bingham took the opening two frames of the second session, but Lyu came back to take the 12th frame with an 86 break and then the 13th on a re-spotted black. Bingham then went on to win two more frames in a row to secure a 10–5 victory.

Wakelin, who had previously lost twice in the first round, met Yan Bingtao, who was making his fourth Crucible appearance. Yan took a 5–4 lead after the opening session with breaks of 71, 68, 79, 69, 56, 62, 84, and 100. Wakelin tied the score at 5–5 with a 77 break in the second session, but Yan won five of the next six frames, including a second century break, to win 10–6. With this win, Yan advanced to the second round of World Snooker Championship for the third year in a row, where he will face reigning champion Mark Selby.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The champion of the 2022 Snooker World Championship will take home £500,000 in prize money, while the losing finalist will take home £200,000. The tournament’s total prize pool will be 2,395,000 pounds.

A maximum break at the Crucible is worth £40,000, whereas a maximum break in the qualification rounds is worth £10,000. These incentives come on top of the £15,000 top prize for the most spectacular break.
