The 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship is a professional snooker competition that will be held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, from April 16 to May 2, 2022. It will be the 46th World Snooker Championship to be contested at the venue. The World Snooker Tour hosts the tournament, which is the 16th and final ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season.

2022 World Snooker Championship Tournament Schedule, Dates, Tickets And Venue

The tournament is taking place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England with the final is slated for Monday, May 2nd. The same venue is hosting the World Snooker Championship for the 46th consecutive year. Tickets for the fixtures can be bought here.

The tournament matches will take place in the following manner:

  • April 16- April 21: First Round Matches
  • 21st April- 25th April: Second Round Matches
  • April 26- April 27: Quarter-final Matches
  • April 28- April 30: Semi-final Matches
  • May 1- May 2: Final

Tournament Format And Rules

The best of 19 frames will be present in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final will be a best-of-35-frames competition played over two days.

The first round of 2022 World Snooker Championship will be contested as a best of 19 frames between April 16 and 21. Zhao Xintong led Clarke 7–2 in the first session with two century and additional breaks of 98, 78, and 73. He then went on to win the first three frames of the second session, making breaks of 88 and 82 on his way to a 10–2 victory in the Crucible.

With this win, Zhao Xintong qualified for the second round of 2022 World Snooker Championship, where he will face Stephen Maguire, who stunned 2005 Champion and 2021 runner-up Shaun Murphy 10-8 in the first round.

Page took the lead against former runner-up Barry Hawkins in the first three sets. He made a 102 break in the eighth frame to extend his lead to 6–2, but Hawkins won the ninth and final frame of the session despite needing a snooker. Hawkins cut his deficit to one frame at 7–8, but Page won the match 10–7 with back-to-back total clearances of 128 and 135 in the second session.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The tournament winner of 2022 Snooker World Championship will receive £500,000 in prize money, while the losing finalist will receive 200,000 Pounds. The net prize pool of the tournament will be 2,395,000 Pounds.

A maximum break at the Crucible will earn one £40,000, while a maximum break in the qualifying stages will earn one £10,000. These bonuses are in addition to the £15,000 top prize for the highest break.
