2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship’s final day of group play saw three of the strong favorites advance to semi-final stage, where they joined Nodirbek Abdusattorov. Magnus Carlsen, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Hikaru Nakamura all qualified for the last four, but reigning champion Wesley So was unable to rebound from his weak performance earlier in the competition.

2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship Format, Rules, Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, & Other Details
The Berjaya Reykjavik Natura Hotel in Reykjavik city of Iceland will host this prestigious competition from October 25–30, 2022. On the basis of their seeding, eight players were divided into two groups of four each and in the end, each group’s top two players were chosen and advanced to semifinal round.
During the first 30 movements, each participant will have 25 minutes to complete their moves. Starting with move 31, each player will have an additional 5 minutes to complete their moves, with each extra minute adding 5 seconds to the overall clock. The players will be given the opportunity to speak with a registered Second 15 minutes before the game is set to begin before being informed of location of the pieces.

2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship Day 3 Results, Score, Winners, Standings, & Semi-final Schedule
Ian Nepomnitachi suffered another defeat against Nodirbek Abdusattorov during last day of Group A matches at FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship, which ensured Abdusattorov’s position as group winner. After drawing his must-win match against Gretarsson, reigning champion Wesley So moved to the brink of elimination. Despite stunning Abdusattorov in last round, So finished in third-place with 6 points as fellow rival Nepo finished with 7 points after defeating Gretarsson in his last-round tie. Following these results, Nepominachtchi will join Abdusattorov in semi-final stage as representatives from Group A.
In group B, Carlsen defeated Fedoseev and drew against to finish with 10 match points, which propelled him to first-place alongside Nakamura. Despite having outside chance of qualifying for semi-final, Fedoseev squandered his chances after he lost against Carlsen and drew versus bottom-placed Blubaum. With these results, Carlsen qualified for semi-final as group winner while Nakamura advanced as second-placed finisher.
During Saturday’s semi-final matches, reigning world champion Carlsen will play Ian Nepomniachtchi in rematch of last year’s world title final. Meanwhile, in-form teenage prodigy Abdusattorov will face-off against Hikaru Nakamura for securing berth in final.

Participants will divide the $400,000 total prize pool for the FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship 2022 in accordance with how they place. The competition’s winner will take home $150,000 in total prize money, while the runner-up will take home $85,000. After failing to qualify for semi-final, Wesley So has to give his best in upcoming 5th-8th place play-off matches to bag $25,000 prize money, which will be given to 5th place finisher.
