Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet and Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo demonstrated their dominance once again at the 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on Saturday, affirming that their victories in 2023 were not merely chance occurrences. Both athletes successfully defended their titles, showcasing their prowess in different ways.
In the senior women’s event, Chebet led a group of five Kenyan runners that emerged as frontrunners halfway through the 10km race. This group gradually dwindled to three contenders as Chebet, Lilian Rengeruk, and Margaret Kipkemboi surged ahead towards the end. Maintaining their pace, the trio stuck together until Chebet made a decisive move in the final stretch, accelerating and creating a slight gap before crossing the finish line in 31:05.
