2022 World Athletics Championships Qualification Criteria and Events List
The 2021 World Athletics Rankings will be released on June 28, 2022, at the conclusion of the qualification period, and will be used to invite additional competitors to the World Championships where the target number of participants for that event has not been attained through other means of qualification.
This rule has no bearing on the cap of three participants per country in individual events. Through this mechanism, member federations retain the power to confirm or reject athlete selections. The next highest rated athlete becomes eligible for entry via world rankings if the highest ranked athletes are from a country that already has three entries for the event, or if member federations have rejected an entrant.
