Following the win against Pakistan, India rose up to second place in the points table below are Heather Knight’s England. Meanwhile, Maroof’s Pakistan are placed in fourth, above West Indies, who lost to England in their opening game. India will now be looking to go up on as they prepare to face against West Indies in their upcoming match on February 15.
India vs Pakistan Women’s T20 World Cup 2023
After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bat first and put up a healthy score of 149 for four. However, India managed to beat the score in 19 overs following impressive performances from Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh.
Pakistan started poorly after the opening batter Javeria Khan lost the early wicket. Muneeba Ali also fell having scored just 12 runs, followed by Nida Dar, who failed to score a single run. The next batter Sidra Ameen also struggled and scored a measly 11.
Following those weak performances, skipper Bismah Maroof and 18-year-old Ayesha Naseem stepped forward to take charge and scored 149 for four for Pakistan. Maroof scored 68 off 55 with seven fours, while Naseem powered scored an unbeaten 25-ball 43. Radha had the best ratings among the Indian bowlers, after finishing with figures of 4-0-21-2.
India started with a steady run-chase after scoring 43 runs, before losing Yastika Bhatia’s wicket. who scored 17 off 20 before stepping out. Shafali Verma then scored 33 runs off 25 balls including four fours before left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu took her wicket. Next up was Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 16 runs with two balls.
With just 28 runs needed off 18 balls, Richa Ghosh hit three fours in a row to seal the win. Among the bowlers, Nida Dar had an off-day after leaking 36 runs and failing to pick a single wicket. On the other hand, Richa stayed unbeaten on 31 off 20, while Jemimah scored an unbeaten 38-ball 53.
