With only 13 points in 16 games, the Wolves are presently in the relegation zone. With that said, we’ll discover more about Julen Lopetegui’s coaching career and his current contract and salary details in this post.
Who is Julen Lopetegui?
Julen Lopetegui Argote is a former Spanish footballer who currently coaches Wolverhampton Wanderers football club in the Premier League. He appeared in 149 La Liga games for Real Madrid, Logroes, Barcelona, and Rayo Vallecano as a goalkeeper across 11 seasons. He also played in the Segunda División for three teams. Julen also represented Spain in the 1994 World Cup.
The 56 year old is married to Rosa and the two have three children.
Lopetegui began his managerial career in 2003 and spent several years in charge of Spain’s junior teams. He guided the under-19 and under-21 teams to European championships. Julen has also been the manager of some of the biggest European Clubs – Real Madrid (2018) and Sevilla (2019-22).
His father, José Antonio, was a harrijasotzailea, a champion Basque stonelifter. Lopetegui likes his sole central striker to drift wide before making sudden movements more centrally – getting between and in behind opposition CBs. He favours a 4-3-3 (below) and a 4-2-3-1, which consistently demonstrates a sense of balance and a sound grasp of possession, and attack into the final third.
