The grasscourt season has gained a lot of attention after the WTA and ATP decided to remove ranking points from the 2022 Wimbledon Championships after the tournament’s controversial decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players, know the wildcards and wild card entries

Despite the backlash preceding the tournament, practically all of the best players have signed up for the 2022 Championships. Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek will lead the men’s and women’s fields, respectively, with multi-time champions Rafael Nadal and Petra Kvitova.

Djokovic defeated Matteo Berrettini in four sets in the previous edition of the men’s singles final, claiming his sixth Wimbledon title. Following her retirement, Ashleigh Barty, who defeated Karolina Pliskova in the ladies’ singles finals in 2021, will not compete this year.

Former champions Roger Federer and Venus Williams are among the notable omissions from the field. Leylah Fernandez, who will miss the 2022 French Open due to a leg ailment, will also skip the grasscourt event.

Serena Williams, Tim Van Rijthoven, and Stan Wawrinka Are Among the Wildcards For The 2022 Wimbledon.

Serena Williams has received a wildcard to play in this year’s Singles Draw, with the initial allocations made on Tuesday afternoon, following the revelation that she will be making her comeback to the sport during Wimbledon.

Williams will also compete in WTA Eastbourne, but just in doubles with Ons Jabeur, as she prepares for her trip to SW19.

On the men’s side, a slew of British stars like Ryan Peniston, Liam Broady, and Paul Jubb have been handed wildcards, while Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, and Katie Swan have been given wildcards on the ladies’ side.

Stan Wawrinka, who has just made a comeback to the sport on clay courts and is a two-time Quarter-Finalist in the lone Grand Slam he has not won, joins Williams in terms of non-British names.

While Tim van Rijthoven of the Netherlands, who stunned the tennis world by winning the Libema Open as a wildcard and defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, will also receive a wildcard, with one more to be revealed on the men’s side and two more on the women’s side.
