The 22-year-old all-rounder, though, is yet to play in IPL despite people clamouring for Arjun Tendulkar to be given a chance by MI in IPL 2022
Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the great Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League for the past two seasons. The defending champions had a terrible IPL season, finishing last in the points table with only four wins out of 14 league matches.
Shane Bond Reveals Why Arjun Tendulkar Didn’t Get A Match For MI In IPL 2022
When things weren’t going their way, the Mumbai Indians changed their starting lineup and gave debuts to Dewald Brevis, Ramandeep Singh, Sanjay Yadav, Kumar Kartikeya, and Tristian Stubbs, among others.
Fans demanded Arjun’s inclusion in the playing eleven
Fans began pleading with the franchise to give Arjun his debut after the campaign ended, but their cries went unheard, sparking a massive discussion on social media. Angry supporters couldn’t understand why Arjun was forced to sit on the bench by their favourite organisation. There was no justification, no explanation.
MI’s bowling coach has finally talked about it
For the first time, someone within MI’s brain tank has spoken out on Arjun and revealed why he hasn’t been able to break into the starting lineup.
Shane Bond, the Mumbai Indians bowling coach, stated that getting into the squad is easier than securing a spot in the playing XI.
Arjun needs to put in a lot of effort to enhance his talents, according to the Kiwi veteran, and only then will he be able to gain a berth in the starting lineup. Bond also mentioned that Arjun’s hitting and fielding are two areas where he has to improve the most.
“He’s got a lot of work ahead of him. Making the roster for a side like Mumbai is one thing, but getting into the starting XI is another. Bond said. “He still has a lot of hard work and development to go.”
“When you play at this level, you have to walk a tight line between giving everyone a game and earning your spot. Arjun will need to improve his batting and fielding before being considered for a spot on the team. Hopefully, he will be able to make those advancements and earn a spot on the squad.”
Despite Mumbai’s poor season, Arjun’s abilities were not good enough to earn him a spot in the starting XI, according to Bond’s comments.
The franchise may argue that they don’t want to rush Arjun into a high-pressure situation and destroy his confidence, but we all know that isn’t the case.
We’ve seen a lot of ordinary players make their IPL debuts throughout the years, proving that you don’t have to be a world-class player to play in the IPL. You only have to be good, which Arjun plainly isn’t, as evidenced by the franchise’s treatment of him.
The franchise stated at the time of his selection that he was chosen based on his abilities, and now they have effectively contradicted their own word. The question now is why did the franchise sign Arjun in the first place if he is indeed so bad. They are undoubtedly sceptical of his abilities.
The MI owners paid Rs 30 lakh to sign the 22-year-old all-rounder, which is not a modest sum by any means.
The only reason he is a member of the MI team is because of nepotism. Do you think the franchise would have spent lakhs on a guy to fill the bench if he wasn’t the son of the famous Sachin Tendulkar?
His nomination was clearly influenced by nepotism rather than merit.
