“Whoever made the most passes win,” Jimmy Neesham Takes Bemusing Jibe At England After Euro 2020 Final Defeat

“Whoever made the most passes win,” Jimmy Neesham Takes Bemusing Jibe At England After Euro 2020 Final Defeat

The New Zealand cricketer, Jimmy Neesham was in a spiky mood as he extracted revenge for his team’s world cup defeat after England were downed in the final of Euro 2020

Given the toxic and cringeworthy atmosphere they had built around the Euro 2020 final, England were far from anyone’s favourites. Despite their own countrymen, almost the rest of the global stage wanted the country to be downed when it took on Italy.

From shining a laser in Kasper Schmeichel’s face, Raheem Sterling diving for a penalty and the ever so hated and petulant its coming home chant, England had done little to win the world over. It was well evident when the Italians triumphed on penalties with the entire global stage standing as one to rejoice in England’s dismal failure.

It wasn’t just the footballing fraternity though which left no stone unturned to take jibes at the English side and supporters. Cricketers, in particular those from New Zealand were quick to take to social media platforms to compare England’s defeat to their ODI World Cup 20219 defeat.

New Zealand had ended up losing the showpiece final to England on the most boundaries rule. With the tie ending in a draw and the Super Over failing to break the deadlock as well, the guidelines by ICC saw England being handed over the trophy as they had hit the most sixes and fours.

Taking a pot-shot at England, Jimmy Neesham took to Twitter to write why the match went down to penalties and why the side with the most passed wasn’t given the trophy. Scott Styris wasn’t far behind either with the old Black Caps players saying England should have being crowned corners as they had the most corners.

There was much furore back in 2019 after England were handed over the glistening trophy for hitting more boundaries then England. In the midst of this seething ire, ICC had decided to tweak the rules with only a Super Over now deciding the destiny of any match.
