In a TikTok video, Marissa detailed her request for maternity leave, which she claimed was denied by CEO Liu on the grounds that Marissa did not give birth to her son.
According to Kyte Baby policy, an employee may only work remotely for a maximum of two weeks, after which they would be fired if they were unable to return to the office. When Marissa refused to cooperate, she was fired, which brought attention to the situation.
In response, CEO Liu issued an apology via TikTok, expressing regret for mishandling Marissa’s parental leave during her adoption journey. Liu apologized to Marissa and the Kyte Baby community, acknowledged the need for more communication, and promised to keep paying till Marissa got back.
Liu underlined that she intended to personally apologize to Marissa and restated the company’s pledge to assist her during the adoption procedure. Marissa’s original position would remain open for her upon her return.
