The decision was taken on Saturday, and the BJP leader—who is from Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand—cited “mutual consent” with the groom’s family as justification.

Who is Yashpal Benam?
Yashpal Benam is an Indian politician who is currently associated with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He has been in the news because he called off his daughter’s wedding with a Muslim guy amid outrage.
He is a native of Pauri, Garhwal. His father’s name is Kirat Singh Rawat. After completing his schooling, he attended HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar (Garhwal), where he first did a B. Sc. Later, he also earned an MA degree in political science. Later, he earned a Bachelor of Journalism and a Master of Journalism.
Yashpal Benam is married; however, not much is known about his wife. He also has two children: one daughter and one son. Monika Benam a Hindu, the daughter of Pauri Nagar Palika President Yashpal Benam, was to get married to a man named Monis from Aligarh on May 28.
His career
Yashpal Benam is the current chairman of the Pauri Municipal Corporation. He formerly belonged to the Congress and won the Pauri Assembly seat in 2007 as an independent.
