A look at Billy Jack Haynes’ career
In 1982, Haynes, at 28 years old, began wrestling. Training at Stu Hart’s Dungeon pro wrestling school, he temporarily competed under his real name in Hart’s Stampede Wrestling, where he and Bruce Hart formed a tag team.
Billy started a protracted and violent battle with the Oliver clan and Rip Oliver. Alongside Stan Stasiak, he won the title of Northwest champion and formed a winning tag team. His first professional match was a 60-minute draw in which he faced Ric Flair for the National Wrestling Alliance World heavyweight championship.
He then moved to Florida and was involved in several fights. He went back to Championship Wrestling from Florida, but this time the state was not as prosperous as it had been when he had wrestled there a year or two before. He teamed up with Wahoo McDaniel right away, and the two of them soon became the NWA United States tag team champions.
After a dominant debut victory over Jimmy Kent in 1986, Haynes returned to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
