Reminiscent of the earlier well-publicized agitation, the same farmer groups, albeit in new configurations, have made a new call for a “Dilli Chalo” march on 13th February.
Increased security measures have been implemented in the nation’s capital, including container walls, concrete blocks, iron nails, and multi-layer barriers at the border to deter the farmers who are protesting. Despite these efforts, farmers have managed to breach police barricades, leading to confrontations that include the use of tear gas bombs by law enforcement.
Amidst these developments, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, leader of BKU (Ekta Sidhupur), has taken an independent stance by forming a parallel organization named SKM (Non-Political).
This new coalition includes farm groups from Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Leading the demonstrations under the name “Dilli Chalo 2.0,” Dallewal coordinated with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and planned events in Amritsar and Barnala.

Who is Jagjit Singh Dallewal?
Jagjit Singh Dallewal is a farmer and a leader. He has been in the news because he is currently leading the farmers’ protests under a new call for a “Dilli Chalo” march on 13th February.
Originating from the village of Dallewal in the district of Faridkot, he has led many farmer groups in Punjab and has been instrumental in tackling agrarian concerns. Dallewal is the leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Siddhpur), a group that works to alleviate the issues that Punjabi farmers face.
In 2022, Jagjit Singh Dallewal demonstrated his dedication to the cause by embarking on a lengthy hunger strike. Under his direction, some fifty Punjabi farmer groups marched to Delhi to raise awareness of the difficulties that the agricultural community faces.
Dallewal’s path hasn’t been without its share of challenges, though. He has encountered disagreements with the United Kisan Morcha group, especially in the run-up to the 2022 elections.

A divide resulted from certain farmer groups’ choice to get involved in politics; some farmers voiced their doubts, saying that they thought politics shouldn’t have been pursued.
