Speaking on Sengol’s making, Vummidi Sudhakar, who is the maker of historical artifacts, revealed to a news agency that he was just 14 when he made Sengol with his elder brother Vummidi Ethirajulu.
He said, ‘It’s mainly his elder brother Vummidi Ethirajulu who helped him to design the Sengol. Currently his age is 97 years as of 2023 and was born in 1927. He is the one who directed all the work.
Vummidi Ethirajulu and Vummidi Sudhakar who are 88 years old both were expected to attend the inauguration function of the new Parliament building.
The Sengol has been made with silver and a gold plating was given to it. Sudhakar said, “We finished working on the Sengol after a month.”
When he was asked about the cost of making Sengol, Vummidi Ethirajulu revealed that it took INR 15,000 for its making. “We didn’t know it was going to be making history after 75 years.”
Speaking to India Today, Udhay Vummidi, son of Vummidi Ethirajulu, said, “We didn’t know where it was since long. We recovered it after so long and thanks to the media and PM Modi. The Prime Minister reached out and asked about Sengol.”
The historical Sengol, which was received by the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, symbolized the transfer of power from British to India in early 1947(at the time of freedom). It is all set to be installed in the new Parliament building on the 28th of May, 2023 by PM Narendra Modi. It will be placed in the new Lok Sabha Chamber in the presence of a number of guests.
