After offering Nawaz on the pitch during the October 6 Pakistan vs India match in Hyderabad, Mohammad Rizwan has found himself in hot water.

Pakistan has participated in three matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 thus far. They have won over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, but they have lost against India. One of their mainstays, Muhammad Rizwan, may suffer repercussions after an Indian lawyer lodged a complaint with the ICC regarding his offering of the Namaz on the pitch during Pakistan’s first-ever match versus the Netherlands.
As per a report in InsideSport, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has received a complaint against Pakistan’s wicketkeeper from attorney Vineet Jindal, who practises supreme court law. Jindal said in his lawsuit that Rizwan’s actions had “defeated the spirit of sports.”
Not to forget, Vineet Jindal is the same person who earlier voiced concerns about Pakistani broadcaster and journalist Zainab Abbas, claiming that her tweets were rude and disparaging of Indians and Hinduism.
On December 14, Supreme Court Advocate and Social Activist Vineet Jindal received death threats on Twitter from an account allegedly backed by a Khalistani organisation and had filed a complaint with Adarsh Nagar Police Station, Delhi.

He had also received death threats in 2022 and thereafter sought protection from the Delhi Police after getting an anonymous letter on which was written “Allah ka paigam hai Vineet Jindal, tera bhi sar tan se juda karenge jald hi” (It’s Allah’s message Vineet Jindal, we will behead you too shortly.)
According to the ICC they lack the authority to prosecute a person for actions taken off the pitch. Both Rizwan and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would decide whether or not to take any action. The International Cricket Council had already opted not to prosecute Rizwan for his October 11 tweet endorsing Gaza following Pakistan’s victory over Sri Lanka in their second match.
This is not the first time that Mohammad Rizwan has offered Namaz in the middle; at the T20 World Cup 2021, the batter did the same against India. It was a period when the wicketkeeper did not receive many complaints.
Amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Muhammad Rizwan dedicated his match-winning century against Sri Lanka to the people of Gaza. Along with the century-scoring Abdullah Shafique, Rizwan was instrumental in Pakistan’s successful pursuit of their second World Cup triumph as they chased a lofty 345-run total. In an unprecedented move, Pakistani batter Muhammad Rizwan gave his performance as a tribute to the people lost in Gaza due to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
