The 2019 national championship was won with Stanford’s help, and numerous NWSL teams expressed interest in Smith’s play with her wearing the number 11 jersey for the US.

In the following year’s 2020 NWSL Draft, the Portland Thorns made her their first-round pick. Thanks in major part to Smith’s seven goals during her rookie season, Portland won the NWSL regular season.
