The two-time defending FIFA champions ideally need to find a new head coach ahead of the December international window.
While Matt Crocker leads the search for a new permanent head coach, assistant Twila Kilgore will serve as the interim head coach. Kilgore will lead the team during the upcoming September friendlies against South Africa and two against Colombia in October.
Twila Kilgore bio and age
Twila Kilgore is the newly promoted head coach of the USWNT who was born on 18 January 1980 in Downey, California, USA. She is currently 43 years old and got the new role after taking over from Vlatko Andonovski who recently resigned.
Twila Kilgore playing career
Kilgore had a brief playing career, playing four years in the NCAA as a midfielder for the Arizona Wildcats from 1998-2001. During her time there, she made 92 appearances, setting a record for the program. Throughout her time in college she also featured on the All-Pac-10 Conference team twice. As for her professional career she only had a brief stint with USL-W side Arizona Heatwave.
Twila Kilgore coaching career
Kilgore started out her time with the USWNT back in 2019 as the head coach of the U-20 team. Alongside her job with team, Kilgore served as an assistant coach for NWSL team Houston Dash. Kilgore eventually completed her USSF Pro License courses, and became the third woman and first American-born woman to do so.
She later got promoted as the assistant coach with the senior team last year in 2022. As a result, she left her job with the Dash to serve the new job full-time. Twila Kilgore has briefly served as the U-23 head coach on several occasions alongside her senior team duties.
Vlatko Andonovski departure
According to reports, Vlatko Andonovski resigned as the USWNT head coach following a disappointing 2023 Women’s World Cup. Despite entering the tournament as two-time defending champions and pre-tournament favorites, United States got eliminated in the Round of 16. From the very start, Andonovski’s spot at the helm, was in danger as the USWNT failed to meet expectations.
As soon as the elimination was finalized, Andonovski’s role as head coach became deabtable, and he soon confirmed his resignation. Andonovski’s departure was the first time U.S. Soccer fired a USWNT head coach after a Women’s World Cup ever since Greg Ryan’s contract was not renewed after the 2007 tournament.

Twila Kilgore is married to Jeremiah Kilgore, who is a former college football player for Pepperdine University and now works as a USL League Two coach. The couple tied the knot on September 2021 in a private ceremony, in Malibu, California.
