Who is Tori Penso?

Tori Penso is a Florida-born American football official. She was the first woman to officiate an MLS game in more than 20 years in 2020. At the age of 14, Penso started her career as a referee, officiating both boys’ and girls’ games.

This provided the then-teenager with a source of income, but it also allowed her to attend an Olympic Development Programme refereeing camp in Texas, which led to another fantastic opportunity.

Penso had not yet thought about a job as a referee because she was playing football and going to school for a marketing degree at the time. Later, Penso decided she would rather referee than continue working at an advertising business.
